Winner of the 2012 Suzanne LaVere Herbst Award for Excellence in Vascular Access

Access (AVA) is pleased to announce that Josephine Stone, RN, CPNP, CRNI, VA-BC will be presented with the Suzanne LaVere Herbst Award for Excellence in Vascular Access.

Josephine (Josie) Stone was cited in the award nomination process by colleagues who praised her significant achievements within AVA and in the profession.  Specifically, they noted that while serving as President of AVA, she collaborated with the Oley Foundation, INS and the AVA Education Committee, to design an educational campaign to address the fears consumers have of becoming ill when clinicians handle their vascular access devices.  This program for patients to provide to their caretakers was named "Keep Me Safe".  This program later led to the release of AVA's "Save That Line!" for clinicians to make vascular access device practice safer for patients.

Josie has chaired AVA’s Global Strategy Committee for the past four years and was influential in the formation of the World Congress of Vascular Access (WoCoVA) and its Congresses held in both 2010 and 2012.  She is a member of its Strategic Planning Committee, charged with the conference development.  The Global Strategy committee under her guidance has also planned the first Mandarin language pre-meeting event for professionals from China at this years AVA Annual Scientific Meeting.

Ms. Stone is currently a clinical education and marketing consultant with Josie Stone Consulting, LLC, a company she started in 2006.  Prior to that she served as a Clinical Marketing Manager at BD Medical in Salt Lake City, Utah and for many years was Professional Services Director and Director of Education at Kentec Medical in Irvine, California.
