Mission

In support of the AVA mission to improve patient safety, comfort and outcomes; define the specialty; promote a favorable public policy environment; optimize professionals’ knowledge and skills; share best practices; and promote research in vascular access, the Wise foundation has been established to offer research grants and educational scholarships necessary to develop evidence based vascular access care.

The Foundation is named for Marcia Wise, AVA’s former President, Executive Director, Journal Editor and Conference Chairperson, who sustained the organization through significant financial crisis in the late 1990s. 

The mission of the Wise Foundation is to:

1.  Provide funds for research in various areas of vascular access

2.  Provide educational scholarships for vascular access professionals

Vision

By 2015, the Wise Foundation targets the improvement of patient outcomes by funding research in the science of vascular access and supporting the translation of that research in practice. A successful strategic, visionary and dynamic organization, the Wise Foundation is known as an independent, international and multi-disciplinary entity. By setting priorities in research and supporting education in evidence-based Best Practices, the Wise foundation has defined vascular access as a specialty with its own core curriculum.

The Wise Foundation is a 501(c)3 educational and research foundation, and the AVA Board will act as the governing board for the new Foundation.
