Denise Macklin, BSN, RNC – Nurse Consultant and Author, has over 40 years of nursing experience with 25 years in the specialty of IV Therapy.  She is the recipient of the Suzanne LaVere Herbst award for vascular access and a research grant related to vascular access education from the National Institute for nursing research.   She has lectured around the United States on a wide variety of IV Therapy topics. She has published articles in various publications, including Oncology Nurse Forum, Journal of Vascular Access, American Journal of Nursing, Nursing Management and Dimensions of Critical Care.  She has published six nursing textbooks through Elsevier with one specifically on IV therapy practice.

 

Brenda Parker, BSN, RN- VP Nursing, Healix, Inc., Brenda Parker has been an employee of Healix since 1998, and joined the Healix executive team in February 2000 to serve as the Vice President of Nursing Services. Ms. Parker has approximately twenty-five years of nursing experience; specifically, fifteen years in infusion therapy, and twenty years of leadership and management expertise. Her accolades in the field are numerous and include national acknowledgement for high standards of practice in the nursing profession.

 

 
Paul Blackburn, MNA, BSN, RN- Director of Clinical Programs, Bard Access Systems, has worked in the health care arena for 26 years.  20 of those years have been spent in leadership positions.  Paul has a strong clinical background in surgical nursing.  Paul worked as an operating room supply chain management consultant, beginning his career in clinical education.  Paul became formally involved in vascular access in 1999, although vascular access played a big role in Paul’s professional life throughout his career.  Paul is currently working with a manufacturer as a director of marketing charged with developing vascular access products and clinical education programs for vascular access clinicians.  In his spare time, Paul is a Lt Col in the Utah Air National Guard, serving as the Chief Nursing Officer, responsible for leadership of 20 clinicians. 

Mary Deschneau, RN, BSN, Senior Technical Specialist for IV Therapy, 3M Medical Division.  Mary has over 30 years of experience in adult and pediatric ICU and medical ICU. She developed, implemented, and managed the Vascular Access Service at the University of Minnesota Medical Center and was the Clinical Lead for this service for six years. In former positions, Mary has served as the Clinical Consultant / Educator in Vascular Access for Bard Access Systems and for Smith Medical, Inc. She has been a featured presenter at the AVA National Conference, the Canadian Nurses Association, and the Infusion Technology Institute. Mary has also shared her expertise overseas in the Netherlands and at numerous regional conferences here in the United States.

Inez Nichols, RN, MSN, CRNI, FNP-BC is well recognized as a nurse educator and provides classes and practicum for PICC placement utilizing ultrasound and microintroducer technique.  Her infusion practice roles and responsibilities have included patient education, nursing education, and outcomes monitoring related to infusion therapy practices, and the placement, care, and maintenance of vascular access devices.  She has several publications, one of which includes an evidence-based practice research study documenting outcomes of upper arm placement of PICCs.  Ms. Nichols recently attended the University of North Florida and completed a family nurse practitioner program in April 2009.

Gregory A. Miller, has recently retired after 40 years in the vascular access business.  His experience has been in the marketing of Peripheral IV catheters, Central lines including dialysis catheters, PICC and midline catheters, Ports, IV, Syringe and PCA pumps, needleless connectors and vascular imaging technology.  This experience has been with the leaders in many of these markets as well as entrepreneurial start-up companies.  He has served in various capacities within AVA, INS and CINA for many years.
