AVA has partnered with Envision Inc. on an important new video training program, "Preventing Central Line-Associated Bloodstream Infections (CLA-BSI)". The program features renowned infectious disease expert Dr. Dennis Maki.

Most IV related infections are associated with Central Venous Catheters (CVCs), and approximately 80,000 CLA-BSI occur in U.S. ICU’s each year. However, the greatest number of patients with central lines are outside of the ICU environment (for example, in Hematology or Oncology wards), many of which discharge patients with lines in place where there is substantial risk for infection.

There is increasing pressure from CMS, The Joint Commission, IHI and DHHS to decrease the number of central line associated bloodstream infections. This program educates healthcare providers on the latest evidence-based practice from the CDC and HICPAC / SHEA / IDSA / APIC recommendations for preventing central line-associated bloodstream infections. Clinical Advisors for the program were Dr. Dennis Maki and Rita McCormick, RN, CIC and the content has been reviewed by the Association for Vascular Access (AVA).

The program features evidence-based practice for preventing CLA-BSI, including:

The discounted AVA membership price is $295 (regular price of $325) and included is:

"Dr. Maki gives a tremendous amount of information about the complexity of some patients and why judgments must be made based on patient need. His interview gives a lot of strength to the DVD." - Rita McCormick, RN, CIC

The complete video can be viewed on the Envision website after registering.
