Sam placed her first PICC in 2003 and has been a passionate vascular access nurse ever since. She developed and coordinated the Pediatric PICC team at UCLA and has experience on the IV/PICC team at Los Angeles Children’s, Scottsdale Healthcare’s PICC Service, and most recently Infusion Therapy at Mayo Clinic Rochester where she also developed a pediatric PICC team. Currently she works for Teleflex, Arrow as a Regional Clinical Education Manager in their vascular division providing education related to vascular access throughout the Midwest.

Learning Objectives

  • Review current evidence that applies to device selection in the ICU
  • Consider factors specific to the critically ill patient population
  • Identifies proper device selection based on patient’s needs
  • Understand importance of ongoing assessment post device selection
