Memo to Membership: Changes and Progress
On behalf of the Board of Directors for the Association for Vascular Access I am excited to update you on events, planning and next steps for the organization:
· At our last meeting February 10, 2020, the board unanimously agreed to proceed with the search and hire of our next executive leader. We are searching for a uniquely qualified executive leader who will assist in moving AVA's strategic plan across the finish line. Our first step will be interviewing executive search firms. Once that selection is made, I will have a better timeline developed and will share that and other updates as the process moves forward.
· Next, Tonya Hutchison, COO and I ventured to Ft. Lauderdale, FL for the annual National Health Council 2020 Health Leadership Conference February 12-14, 2020. What a dynamic meeting and opportunity to connect with over 120 members from like-minded non-profit organizations like AVA. We face similar challenges regardless the size of our organization and this event was a great opportunity to exchange ideas, network and learn from thought leaders. Presentations included social fundraising, networks of the future, maximizing our board and mission, the current political state and impact on non-profits and the future of health just to name a few.
· For the last several weeks, Design-Team (D-Team) members have been busy reviewing abstract submissions and completing phone interviews with some of the speakers. With 184 submissions and 77 open slots, the job was not easy! Last weekend this process culminated when the D-Team volunteers met at the Rockies Gaylord Resort and Convention Center in Denver, CO the site of our next Scientific Meeting. The D-Team volunteers systematically discussed all the abstracts, selected submissions and organized these into the shell of the conference layout. That information is shared with our conference planners who will begin to put the plan into motion. It will take a couple more weeks before speakers are notified, and the conference schedule is released but I assure you it will be worth the wait! Over the years I’ve seen growth not just in the number of abstracts submitted to the AVASM, but also the variety of topics, including more scientific and evidence-based research! You are making this a world with safe vascular access by sharing your practice and outcomes! Don’t forget to take advantage of Early Bird Registration now open.
