New AVA Membership Benefit – British Journal of Nursing IV Therapy Supplement Access

February 13, 2020 – Today the Association for Vascular Access (AVA), in conjunction with the British Journal of Nursing (BJN), a publication of the Mark Allen Group and MA Healthcare, announced a new collaboration that allows active AVA members immediate online access to BJN’s IV Therapy Supplement.

Access to this content and its associated benefits are available immediately to all AVA members online beginning with the January 2020 issue. BJN publishes the MEDLINE-indexed IV Therapy Supplement four times per year, in January, April, July and October.

“AVA members eagerly search for fresh vascular access content daily,” AVA Director of Communications and Journal of the Association for Vascular Access (JAVA) Editor-in-Chief Eric Seger said. “They’re constantly looking for the next study on IV access, novel procedures they can apply to their practice, and the latest news on vascular access devices from across the globe. We had this in mind while we worked with BJN to establish this benefit for our members.”

Active AVA members now receive access to the content published in the quarterly IV Supplement. BJN will email a link to each issue upon publication directly to each member once it is available.

BJN is also set to reprint 2-3 articles from the most recent issue of JAVA in each of its four issues in 2020. That began in January, when articles focusing on the use of alcohol with chlorhexidine gluconate to disinfect central line hubs, the acceptability of peripheral venipuncture versus external jugular venipuncture for live patients and assessing the validity of using the difficult intravenous access (DIVA) score to predict the likely success of IV placement in the emergency department graced pages of the printed version of the journal.

The current issue of the BJN IV Therapy Supplement also covers topics ranging from risk factors for phlebitis, residual fluid after IV administration and more. It can be read online here, while individual papers are accessible at the BJN library for subscribers of that journal.

This relationship also establishes a communication route between the two journals, where each can share article ideas and encourage further engagement on topics relevant to the specialty. It provides a pathway for further engagement, all while promoting the AVA brand across international lines.

AVA members can anticipate receiving an email from BJN once a quarter with access to the latest IV Therapy Supplement.

JAVA Archive Now Available Online Through Funding From Medline Industries

September 9, 2019 – Today the Association for Vascular Access (AVA), in collaboration with Medline Industries, Inc., announced a new, innovative portal housing historical vascular access research published in the Journal of the Association for Vascular Access (JAVA).

Available to all AVA members and journal subscribers at the journal's website, the JAVA Legacy Content is an archive of vascular access-related content dating back more than 20 years and made available to AVA members, journal subscribers and healthcare research enthusiasts. The portal was made possible through Medline’s investment in published vascular access material.
